In a recent survey conducted by Atomik Research, it was found that more than half of homeowners are not fully aware of heat pumps and their function, and therefore have not considered purchasing one. The survey also revealed a significant gap of awareness among contractors regarding heat pump technology. Despite 80% of homeowners claiming to know what a heat pump is, over half of them admit to being unsure or unknowledgeable about its full capabilities. This lack of understanding is preventing homeowners from embracing the potential of heat pump technology.

One of the key findings of the survey is that many homeowners are hesitant to switch to a heat pump simply because they don’t know enough about it. Nearly half of the respondents cited lack of knowledge as the main reason for their hesitance. On the other hand, contractors who participated in the survey expressed a strong interest in learning more about heat pumps, with 87% stating that they would be more likely to consider switching to a heat pump in their own homes after learning about its benefits.

The survey also highlighted a lack of awareness among homeowners regarding the incentives available for installing heat pump technology. More than half of the respondents were unaware that installing a heat pump system could qualify them for federal tax credits. However, upon learning about these incentives, two-thirds of homeowners said they would be more likely to consider having a heat pump installed in their homes.

Overall, the survey suggests that there is a significant awareness gap regarding heat pump technology among both homeowners and contractors. It is crucial for homeowners to understand the performance, benefits, and incentives available to them in order for heat pumps to become more mainstream across America. With ongoing federal and regional legislation and incentives, adoption of heat pumps is expected to continue increasing in the coming years.
