IBM is set to acquire StreamSets and webMethods, the enterprise technology platforms from Software AG, a company majority-owned by Silver Lake, in a deal valued at €2.13 billion. The acquisition is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2024.

StreamSets is a cloud-native DataOps and data ingestion platform that enables consistent access and delivery of data from various sources. It enhances data ingestion for Watson, IBM’s AI platform. WebMethods, on the other hand, is an integration and API management platform available on-premises and in the cloud. It provides integration and API management tools for hybrid multi-cloud environments. This acquisition reflects the growing importance of these technologies for application modernisation and the efficient deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) across enterprises.

Consisting of StreamSets and webMethods, Software AG’s Super iPaaS platform is profitable and has a recurring revenue profile, catering for over 1,500 clients worldwide. IBM says this acquisition will strengthen its portfolio companies, including Watsonx, Red Hat, and IT automation products, and help businesses better utilise their applications and data.

IBM, a global leader in hybrid cloud, AI, and consulting, operates in over 175 countries. Its solutions support digital transformations in several vital sectors such as finance, telecom, and healthcare. Software AG, a German software developer, offers IT platforms for businesses in three segments and aids digital transformation across industries like banking, communication, energy, insurance, retail, and transportation.

This acquisition is noteworthy as it underscores IBM’s commitment to AI and hybrid cloud, reflecting its ambitions to support application modernisation and the effective deployment of AI across businesses. With StreamSets and webMethods added to its portfolio, IBM clients and partners can look forward to one of the most modern and comprehensive application and data integration platforms in the industry.
