TotalEnergies, along with its partners QatarEnergy and Petronas, has announced it has signed a production sharing contract for Block 64 with state-owned oil company of Suriname, Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname (Staatsolie). The block was awarded to TotalEnergies and its partners as part of the 2022-2023 Bid Round organized by Surinamese authorities.

  • TotalEnergies will operate Block 64, maintaining a 40% interest, while QatarEnergy and Petronas will each hold 30% interest.
  • The block spans an area of 6262 km2 and is located approximately 250 km offshore.
  • TotalEnergies operates in Suriname Block 58, where five discoveries have been made, and development studies are currently underway for a 200,000 bpd oil project expected to be approved by late 2024.
  • In May 2023, TotalEnergies entered exploration blocks 6 and 8 as operator, alongside new partners, QatarEnergy and local firm Paradise Oil Company.

Senior Vice President Exploration of TotalEnergies, Kevin McLachlan, expressed his enthusiasm about the new contract, stating that the new block aligns with the company’s strategy to focus their exploration efforts on low-cost and low-emission resources in core areas. TotalEnergies’ heightened focus in offshore Suriname signifies its strategic move towards more sustainable energy resources.
