Yesterday, Sony revealed a prototype for its latest TV technology that aims to take contrast capabilities to the next level. The company has developed a display with exceptionally high brightness levels, produced using Mini LED technology controlled by an advanced local dimming engine driven by an AI-enhanced processor. The prototype screen offers improved light control, reduced power consumption and increased LED count, resulting in enhanced peak brightness and contrast. Despite its improved performance, Sony claims the prototype consumes around 30% less power than its previous consumer mini LED TV models. The company has not yet disclosed when the technology will be available to the public, or what form it will take in Sony’s 2024 TV range.
