Energy giant E.ON is partnering with UK-based solar innovator Naked Energy to bring hybrid solar heat and power technology to commercial and industrial projects across Europe and the UK. E.ON will offer Naked Energy’s technology, which reportedly saves up to four times the amount of carbon as standard solar PV panels, to its business customers through its Energy Infrastructure Solutions (EIS) unit. The company’s technology is ideal for spaces like breweries, food and beverage businesses, apartment buildings, hotels, leisure centres with pools, and district heat networks. This partnership is expected to boost Naked Energy’s £30m Series B funding round and help it reach export markets.
According to Mark Ritzmann, managing director at E.ON Group Innovation, this partnership is a part of E.ON’s commitment to climate protection and sustainable energy transformation. Naked Energy’s invention, which claims to have the highest energy density solar technology for flat roofs in the world, will be crucial in utilising every available space for renewable energy generation. Christophe Williams, CEO and co-founder of Naked Energy, further highlighted the urgency to decarbonise urban and industrial heating and expressed excitement about the joint venture with EON.
As companies globally strive to reduce their carbon footprint and transition to renewable energy, partnerships such as this one between EON and Naked Energy play a pivotal role. The hybrid solar technology not only provides a clean energy solution, but it also effectively taps into available spaces, thereby accelerating the decarbonisation process. With this deal, both companies aim to scale their operations and impact on a global level, contributing significantly to the broader sustainable energy transition.
