Ferrari believes that the introduction of “new technology” on Red Bull’s brake calipers played a role in their dominance in Formula 1 last season. Red Bull won 10 out of the last 11 races in 2022 and clinched both the driver’s and constructor’s championships comfortably. Ferrari’s chief designer, Enrico Cardile, acknowledged that Red Bull had made advances in the design of their brake calipers, which contributed to the weight reduction of their car. While Ferrari and Carlos Sainz were able to prevent Red Bull from a clean sweep in Singapore, they were unable to consistently challenge the reigning champions. Cardile also highlighted the importance of having a consistent platform, which Red Bull demonstrated throughout the season. Despite Ferrari’s efforts to mount a title bid, their SF-23 car proved unpredictable and vulnerable to changes in wind intensity. The season ended with Ferrari three points behind Mercedes, who were a significant 454 points behind Red Bull.
