According to Mitch Hourtienne, Chief Commercial Officer at LiDAR technology company Cepton, the cost of LiDAR technology has significantly reduced over the past 15 years. Hourtienne states that Cepton has focused on keeping costs down through strategic decision-making, such as choosing a low-cost laser wavelength based on widely available silicon. Cepton also cultivated a robust supplier ecosystem, featuring a prominent partner in Koito Manufacturing and strategic contract manufacturing collaborators. The company aims to tailor its chips specifically for LiDAR use, enabling high-volume production at a minimal cost per unit.
