Cargill has developed a non-invasive Near-InfraRed (NIR) technology called REVEAL Layers that allows producers and nutritionists to monitor the body composition of hens in real-time. The technology uses NIR light to measure the birds’ fat pads, providing actionable data that can support more sustainable and efficient poultry production. Cargill believes that overdeveloped fat pads in laying hens can lead to long-term issues with egg production and liver function. The REVEAL Layers technology has the potential to cut costs, boost profitability, and maximize egg production. The technology will be unveiled at the 2024 International Production and Processing Expo (IPPE).
