Boys and Girls Club of the Gulf Coast receives thousands in new technology equipment

Thousands of dollars were poured into the classroom to invest in the youth with new equipment donated to the Boys and Girls Club of the Gulf Coast. The International Gaming Technology and Mississippi Lottery opened an After School Advantage Lab at the Hancock County and Forest Heights Boys and Girls Club locations. The lab includes new computers, upgraded internet, laptops, virtual reality headsets, iPads, smart TVs, and coding kits. The goal is to modernize student resources and enhance STEAM and STEM programs. Dan Turner, the Mississippi Lottery Vice President of Marketing, and local Mississippi House and Senate Delegation attended the ribbon cutting ceremony.

According to Wayne Buchanan, Senior Director of Resource Development with the Boys and Girls Club Gulf Coast, the new technology equipment will improve and enhance their STEAM and STEM programs. The International Gaming Technology and Mississippi Lottery donated funds to cover the cost of the equipment. The technology includes new computers, upgraded internet, laptops, virtual reality headsets, iPads, smart TVs, and coding kits. Nearly $15,000 worth of equipment was donated to the Hancock County and Forest Heights Boys and Girls Club locations.

The Boys and Girls Club members are excited about the new technology and the opportunities it brings. They can now play games, do science experiments, and work on STEM activities. The goal is to modernize student resources so they can use the technology both in and out of the classroom.
